Unfortunately, once you have paid each of your employees their wages and covered their pension payments and other financial benefits, you will find that quite a bit of your monthly profits will have been eaten into. One thing that could push up the expense of an employee is if they have an accident at work. You might then be responsible for paying them a significant sum in compensation.

Repetitive Strain Injuries
Whether your employees work at their computer all day or handle machinery and equipment, there is a good chance that they will be carrying out the same repetitive motions and actions. There is only one guaranteed way to recover from this type of strain, and that is to rest the injured body part. So, if an employee has to take a few days off because of RSI, it is obviously going to be expensive for your small business.
The risk of car and motorcycle injuries increase during rush hour as the chance of road traffic accidents goes up quite significantly. That’s because there are so many more vehicles on the roads, and drivers are generally in a hurry to either get to work or go home. If an employee sustains severe injuries while commuting, it could put them out of action for quite some time.
RSI isn’t the only injury that is associated with excessive computer use. If your workers aren’t sitting at the right kinds of desks or on the best office chairs while at their computers, then they could start to develop aches and pains in their neck, back, and arms. To prevent this, you just need to invest in some ergonomic furniture. These desks and chairs promote a good posture while sitting in front of a computer.
If there are hazards dotted around the floor of your office, don’t be surprised if an employee trips over them and hurts themselves. If they are particularly badly injured, then they may need to take time off work to recover. However, that’s not the only way this injury will cost your company money – in this case, the employee would be well within their right to sue your business in order to get a compensation payout.
Some employee injuries and accidents are completely preventable, though that isn’t always the case. In order to keep your business expenses down, it’s your responsibility to prevent them whenever possible.
